HATTIESBURG, Miss. (Mississippi Association of Players) - There's a saying that says, "It's okay to make a mistake. Just don't make the same mistake twice!" So MAP decided to use this wisdom and put it in action.
Over the past few months, MAP has spent time restructuring how it operates to better serve it athletes. That includes a lot of new changes, almost a complete overhaul.
New Staff
MAP has a new staff. From a host of new directors to coordinators to instructors for everything, including workout classes or trainings, MAP has reorganized completely. There is nothing that's the same. This change has implemented more structure, accountability, and more opportunities to better serve student athletes.
All-Stars
One of the biggest changes is how MAP operates its all-stars. As the summer all-stars are approaching, the biggest changes is the new commissioners. Each all-star now has a commissioner who will oversee and manage the state all-stars. The commissioner will not only select coaches but will have the final say so on all all-star matters including what student athletes will actually become an all-star, where kids will stay, eat, and everything in between.
Coaches
Also another big change MAP has implemented is all coaches, whether all-star coaches or camp coaches, have to be certified by MAP. That mean coaches will have to attend classes as well as past a test BEFORE they can interact with any MAP programs, activities, events, athletes, etc.
Memberships Fee
Perhaps one of the biggest changes is the increase of membership fees. Student monthly membership fees has increased to $375 a month. New members have to pay a $500 deposit plus first month's membership fees, a total of $875 up front. All membership fees must now be paid online. No coach can personally handle membership fees.
Membership Benefits
As membership fees has increased, so has the opportunity for student activities. Students can attend as many camps, clinics, retreats, and other MAP events as they like each month with no extra fees. All students have to do is simply pay their membership fee.
Online Account
In addition to membership benefits, students also have access to online content such as The Huddle where they can hear from college coaches, The Gym where they can workout from home to stay in shape or work on a certain position, Teens For Christ, where they get daily prayer, devotion, and access to utility assistance, counseling as well as a lot of other platforms they can benefit from simply by logging in their student account.
New Youth Organization The National Association of Players has approved 2 new junior greek community service organizations that student athletes can join, The Mu Lambda Youth Club (Boys Only) and The Lambda Diamonds Youth Club (Girls Only). This organization is for student athletes only. There are no membership fees.
Students can create and participate in local fundraisers to support their local needs, community service projects to support their local communities, and more. Funds they raise can also be used towards covering the MAP membership dues for those in need or for the entire chapter. This is also a way to foster relationships, keep students out of trouble outside of school, keep students connected, build character, leadership & more.
Student Support
Student athletes that needs support, whether a tutor for a class or a counselor for dealing with things at home such as paying a water or light bill to guidance or advice, MAP support staff is here to help. Outside of events, all-stars, and the athletics, MAP is dedicated to supporting each student athlete any way we can.
Our goal remains making sure we provide opportunities and pathways for our student athlete to play sports on the next level. So everyday, we're working behind the scenes with colleges, universities, & others to provide countless opportunities for our athletes to continue to be successful at the next level, in sports or the workforce.
